Tetapi ada faktor lain yang juga amat krusial membuat smartphone versi terbaru Apple harganya meroket tajam hingga bisa 4 bahkan 5 kali lipat saat masuk tanah air. Contohnya iphone4, di Amerika adalah 199 dollar jika di kurs rupiah harganya sekitar 2 jutaan. Akan tetapi jika ponsel Siri ini masuk ke Indonesia nanti bisa-bisa seharga 6, 7 atau mungkin 8 juta. Gila kan?

Sebenarnya ada satu penyebab melonjaknya harga iPhone itu, yakni karena versi yang masuk ke tanah air merupakan versi UNLOCKED. Artinya ponsel tersebut bisa memakai kartu selular apapun dan dapat gunakan penyedia layanan internet manapun, tidak bundel dengan satu provider.

Sedangkan, versi iPhone di Amerika atau Kanada merupakan versi LOCKED. Pengguna disana dibatasi menggunakan kartu selular maupun provider internet.

Pasti anda pernah lihat tulisan atau logo penyedia jaringan bertulis AT&T, Verrizon, Sprint dan sebagianya di iPhone. Itu merupakan iPhone yang merupakan produksi dari hasil kontrak ekslusif antara pihak Apple dengan AT&T jika GSM, dan Verizon jika berbasis jaringan CDMA.

Oleh karena itu, di negeri sana aktifitas bernama “Unlock” merupakan aktifitas kedua paling di buru pemilik iPhone setelah “Jailbreak”. Karena mereka inginkan sebuah ponsel yang fleksibel — bisa gunakan SIM card dan pengirim data apapun — juga tetap bisa di gunakan saat mereka berada di luar negeri. Jika tetap “Locked” maka keterbatasan mereka alami.

Anda tidak percaya bahwa faktor “Locked” pada iPhone dan perangkat berbasis iOS milik Apple membuatnya mahal? Maka coba bandingkan harga versi iPhone 4s, yang Apple rilis dalam dua versi: versi Locked dan Unlocked.

Dengan menulis informasi ini bukan berarti saya sepenuhnya setuju dengan mahalnya harga iPhone juga ponsel pintar lainnya di tanah air. Tetapi berusaha keras memahami alasannya dan memberi informasi bagi yang belum tahu. Saya tetap inginkan harga yang paling tidak masuk akal — tidak mahal banget — seperti harga iPhone 4 versi tekomsel seharga 6 hingga 8 juta rupiah pernah saya posting Januari 2011 lalu.

Padahal pihak Telkomsel sebagai vendor tunggal produk itu, dimana jika siapapun beli ponsel pintar itu. Maka mereka menjadi customer Telkomsel, dan menggunakan layanan Telkomsel artinya terus memberi untung padanya. Namun memang susah kalau vendor lokalnya benar-benar buas untuk urusan money-oriented.

Karenanya pantas jika “hungry money-oriented” di daulat sebagai faktor tambahkan membuat ponsel luar negeri mahal di tanah air — selain faktor cukai dan versi locked diatas.

Alasan ini juga berlaku pada ponsel pintar lainnya, seperti jenis-jenis BlackBerry contohnya BB Bellagio 9790 dari RIM.
